BlueRibbon Re-Affirms its Commitment to Women’s Reproductive Health This Women’s Month

#BlueRibbon today announced the relaunch of its movement to raise awareness about accessibility to women’s healthcare facilities as well encouraging the focus on championing the fight for improved women’s rights. South Africa pays homage to Women’s Month every August as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956, protesting against the extension of Pass Laws to women. The 9th of August is celebrated annually as Women’s Day.

#BlueRibbon is a platform designed to focus on the plight of women in South Africa, with emphasis being on women’s rights and their rights to safe pregnancy options. Launched initially as a campaign under the “My body. My choice” slogan in 2019, #BlueRibbon has since grown from a campaign into a service initiative which aims to empower women.

“Through our Champions initiative, we seek to mobilizethousands of people to build a South Africa where no woman has to sacrifice their Life, family or freedom, safety or dignity, because of what they choose to do with their bodies. As #BlueRibbon, we are working with various communities towards tackling any stigma associated with women’s Sexual Health topics. The stigma linked to women’s reproductivehealth decision-making negatively impacts their health as they fear seeking the appropriate services, which we provide.” – Whitney Chinogwenya Leading the charge under this reimagined #BlueRibbon banner are a number of Champions. Through the lived realitystories shared by the champions, they’re in a position to more accurately spread the movement and information within every community.

The network of champions includes ALL women from all walks of life including – but not limited to – researchers; human rights activists; feminists; scientists; authors; doctors; journalists and so much more. Every woman is a Champion.

#BlueRibbon has since launched a clinic in Potchefstroom, officially opening its doors on the 8th of January 2020 to cater to the need for reproductive and sexual health services for women in the community. Staffed by highly trained medical professionals, the clinic provides high quality, affordable services in a judgement-free environment with assured safety and confidentiality.

#BlueRibbon is a non-profit service operation focused on women’s rights. Part of a 38-country strong International Global partnership, this grants them access to the latest innovations and expertise in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
