ARE YOU READY TO CHASE THE STORM AT GOLD REEF CITY?

Exhilarating new ride will thrill the most hardened adrenaline junkies

Thrill seekers, secure your shoulder harnesses, take a deep breath and get ready for Gold Reef City’s most exhilarating ride yet, the Storm Chaser.

Suspended from an overhead axis, Storm Chaser riders experience the merging of land and sky as they fly head over heels, propelled by dual swinging and spinning motions.

The ride features a circular gondola that rotates as it swings back and forth. When the ride cycle starts, the floor drops away, the gondola begins to rotate and the pendulum arm begins to swing through an arc that culminates in a full 360° revolution.

Marketing Manager: Gold Reef City Casino & Theme Park, Feron Somiah, says the pendulum motion is central to the ride. “Historically, pendulums were used to divine gold, which points to a coincidental synergy between Storm Chaser and Gold Reef City, which is themed around the 1886 gold rush and located on an old Johannesburg gold mine. The claw-like overhead axis is also reminiscent of equipment that is used to facilitate the extraction of gold on mines.”

Also known as a Frisbee ride in other parts of the world, Storm Chaser is the second of its kind on the African continent. “The Storm Chaser can accommodate 30 riders at a time, taking them on a gut-wrenching trip that delivers G-forces and sensations that need to be experienced to be believed,” adds Somiah.

The name, Storm Chaser, was chosen to highlight the ride’s inherent fury and allude to the brave, and somewhat crazy people, who pursue extreme weather conditions to collect scientific data or simply for the thrill of it.

“We challenge all adrenaline junkies, who think they’ve seen it all, to come and try out the Storm Chaser. The spinning and huge sideways arcs combine in what must be one of the scariest rides ever,” concludes Somiah.
