Chillers Lager has officially entered the chat, and MacGyver ‘MacG’ Mukwevho has done it again.
Chillers Lager joins the Chillers Punch family as a beer made by the Chillers, for the Chillers. It is a direct response to a community that has spent years asking for exactly this.
True to the community-first ethos of the network, the lager launched recently at Katy’s Palace, where the real VIPs in the room were the Chillers themselves. The venue doubled as a living gallery, with installations made entirely from the community’s own social media comments, bringing the fans’ and the network’s journey to life on the walls. In a show of raw loyalty, die-hard Chiller Sello Mokgotho wore his heart on his sleeve, literally, with a fresh Chillers Lager tattoo inked onto his arm as part of the exhibition.
Addressing the room, MacG spoke about what it took to break into an industry dominated by a handful of big players. When the doors at home stayed shut, the team headed west and found exactly what they were looking for in Namibia: a top-tier brewing partner in a country with more than a century of German brewing heritage and a reputation for some of Africa’s finest lagers. That pedigree is now in every can of Chillers Lager.
“We never set out to make a beer. The Chillers asked for it, again and again, so we went and built it properly. Plenty of people told us it couldn’t be done, and that’s exactly why we did it. This is a premium lager the Chillers can be proud of, and with their support, anything is possible, as they have shown throughout our journey,” said MacG.
Hosted by Macfarlane Moleli, the night had the energy to match. Poet Vus’umuzi Phakathi opened with the Izithakazelo of the Chillers, Vulela Maweekend closed the formal family meeting, and MacG and Sol Phenduka took over the decks to set the night free.
Chillers Lager is available in 500 ml cans at Ultra Liquors, Pick n Pay and Makro Liquor stores nationwide.
