The golfing sport was once known as a sport for the rich and famous, a playground known to sign and seal deals while getting to know prospect investors a little bit better. TT Mbha who is a business mogul and reality TV star has completely flipped the script proving to us all that golf as a sport has no gender race or social status.

What was meant to be a semi- intimate golfing day with 100 registered caddy golfers turned into a huge golfing event with over 140 caddy golfers attending the first annual TT Mbha Caddy Golf Day. “ Initially we had registered and capped the registration to 100 caddy golfers and to our surprise we had over 40 unregistered caddy golfers outside the golf course eager to play. It really wasn’t a hard decision and with the spirit of ubuntu we decided to allow the unregistered players to join in the fun.” said Mbha

The main purpose of this event was to give back dignity back to caddy golfers with the hopes of winning the grand prize. With flow of events, registration took place at 07:00 am with the next stations being a health check with the WITS medical school team and lastly the opening of bank accounts with Nedbank.“We as black men tend to neglect our health and normally make excuses that the clinics are too full or that an over counter the med will do the job. There are so many ailments which are silent killers like cholesterol and high blood pressure. We decided we need to take the opportunity to bring a medical team to give a health check to the caddy golfers so that they can know where they stand medically with the basic health checks.” said Mbha

Financial Wellness Facilitator Charmaine Moola and Senior Manager Thapelo Tsiu from the Nedbank group briefly shared the importance of being financially savvy. “I have personally heard so many stories from caddies on how they become targets at sporting events. We substance abuse is also a real thing in South Africa and I felt it was important to partner with Nedbank to teach the caddies the importance of being savvy with the money they make from being caddies” said Mbha.

Although this was a game to bring dignity back to caddy – the ultimate prize of attending the Nedbank Golf Challenge while spending three nights at the Sun City Resort in Rustenburg in November with all expenses paid was the goal for the day. The big winner for the night was Khuthadzo Mudua who walked away with the grand prize. Second place went to Elias with Thabiso Dijo coming in third. In support of this great initiative Media personality Tbo Touch, community activist Nhlanhla Lux, former Bafana Bafana superstar Stanton Fredericks, former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Brian Baloyi attended the event as social golfers.
