Mzanzi Traditional & Cultural Music Awards Launch
Mzansi Traditional & Music Awards (MTCMA)launch was held on the 29th February 2020 at Le’ Shakeng Lounge Johannesburg.
What makes MTCMA unique and more powerful is that it is the first annual awards launch embracing culture founded by a Black woman, daughter of the soil,multi award winner and cultural exchange beyond borders activist, Indlovukazi Dr. Nomdakazana Dlamini.
The idea behind this concept is to honour all artists that put so much effort in the industry uplifting our culture and tradition through music yet receive less acknowledgement. People came wearing beautiful traditional attire. Sepedi, Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana etc and celebrated in a traditional style. The menu was written in Isixhosa indeginous language. Welcome drink was Umqombothi, traditional beer for African culture. Umnqusho nolusu, dumplings and umleqwa as the main course to complete the traditional event. Nominees from all provinces, including the award winning artists Tau Sebata(SATMA Award winner 2018), Mmabore Mogashoa(2019 Provincial Innovation Award winner from National Heritage Council of South Africa, Best Newcomer- Skeem Local Music Awards, poet and co-author of ‘Excuse my color,Mirriam Kekana, Seremi (Satma Award winner 2017) who are also nominees for MTCMA and more. The event was graced by the Chairperson of MPASA, Mr. Stephen Tsie, CEO of We solve for X, cleaning my Planet Mr. Tsietsi Ngobese, Author Miss Nomcebo Ngema. MC’s were the loved SABC 1 weatherman Dicksy Mdlalose who danced to traditional Zulu music along with Radio Presenter Justin Wezizwe Zulu who also graced the people with his jokes, and Colleca Madulini the Director for Films and Upcoming artists.
Music is used everyday and everywhere and it is a powerful tool that will change the world and bring back Ubuntu. Mzanzi Traditional & Cultural Music Awards is not only about music but to encourage Africans to respect, love and learn from each other so that Africans can be one.
